I Can’t Stop Saying “Stretchy”

If you bind off nice a loose, then kudos! I wish I knew your secret. I bind off so tight that I often go up 4 needle sizes to keep my stretchy rib knit as stretchy as I can. There is nothing worse than casting off and finding that your stretchy is no longer stretchy; like trying on pants that fit great until you try to button them and can’t. It can totally ruin the knitting zen.

I just completed the first knit-draft of a new pattern and decided to use Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off? Holy Genius!! How have we never met before dear JSSBO (as I hear you are affectionately called). My stretchy hat is still so very stretchy. In fact, it is so stretchy that, despite it’s toddler size, it stretched to fit my not-toddler-sized melon. Stretchy, stretchy, stretchy. Thank you Jeny!

February Goals

Socks

Socks

I started a pair of socks for myself as Super Bowl knitting (my first … edited to add: my first sock for me, not my first Super Bowl). I have been wearing store purchased wool/nylon socks for years and the quality has gone downhill in recent years and what could be better than knitting socks for yourself out of some soft stripey yarn. I found the size 1 knitting needles used for socks to be somewhat intimidating but after the first row or two I am happily flying along watching the self-striping yarn, well, stripe. I have knit Christmas stockings and some small baby socks so turning the heel is a familiar technique. I can’t wait for them to be finished!

My February goals include some more Knockers. I am changing from the Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton in White Peach to Chocolate for a bit of variety. I don’t have patterns picked out for the other items yet.

February Goals for 400 by 40

4 Knitted Knockers (this is such a fun pattern and easy to do from memory once you get going!)

2 Mittens

3 hats (including working on my next pattern)

What charity patterns do you like and why? I would love to know.

Best stitches~

4 Knitted Knockers

4 Knitted Knockers

January came and went and it was a full month! I wasn’t able to get as much knitting done as I would have liked (is that even possible??) but I did complete 4 Knitted Knockers. What a lovely pattern. It works up quickly and easily. I also love how the pattern is written out. At each step it tells you how many stitches are on each needle and it is written in an easy-to-read, no frills format. What more could you ask for?

The yarn I used, Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton in White Peach, is amazingly soft and silky. It is the yarn specifically recommended for the Knockers because it is so soft, as well as washable. I will definitely be using this yarn again!

I’ll be posting my February goals soon. In the meantime, what are you working on?

Best stitches~
